AQUIPTA is a privately-funded prescription medicine used to prevent migraine in patients who have at least 4 migraine days per month.1
Your body has a protein called calcitonin gene-related peptide, or CGRP. This protein is believed to be one of the causes of migraine attacks. AQUIPTA is designed to block CGRP, and by doing so, it helps to prevent migraine attacks.1–4
If you think that you have taken too much AQUIPTA, you may need urgent medical attention. You should immediately phone the National Poisons Centre (by calling 0800 POISON or 0800 764 766), contact your doctor, or go to the Emergency Department at your nearest hospital. You should do this even if there are no signs of discomfort or poisoning.1
A missed dose should be taken straight away. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you missed and take your next dose when you are meant to. Do not take a double dose to make up for the dose you missed.1
Do not stop using AQUIPTA without talking to your doctor first. Your migraine symptoms may return if you stop the treatment.1
Your healthcare professional is best placed to advise you based on your individual situation.
Common side effects include decreased appetite, nausea, constipation, drowsiness (sleepiness) and tiredness. Tell your healthcare professional if you notice any of these side effects or if you feel unwell while taking AQUIPTA.1,5
These are not all the possible side effects of AQUIPTA. For the full list of side effects and restrictions with AQUIPTA, see the AQUIPTA Consumer Medicine Information. If you have any questions or concerns about AQUIPTA, speak to your healthcare professional.
Speak with your healthcare professional to understand if AQUIPTA is right for you. AQUIPTA is a prescription only medicine which can be prescribed by a doctor (GP or specialist). In addition to this, a designated registered nurse or pharmacist prescriber may also prescribe AQUIPTA. For more information visit the Migraine Foundation.
